MATHS PROJECT

Math Project
To complete your 3 credits to go towards your Academic Band, you must complete enough activities below to earn 20 points. There is no time frame for this activity - completing all 20 points in 6 weeks or a Term, all timeframes are acceptable.  Work to your own schedule to complete the points.  All work must be to a high personal standard. Any help needed see Mrs W.

Use “explain everything”  to teach others how to work out a series of things e.g. mean, median or mode and share with the class on your blog. (3 points)
Create a project on tinkercad you would like to complete and print on the 3D printer.

Make your own code.  

Start with a message make your own code and convert your message.  Share your  code with the class by blog or google docs and see if anyone can crack it.  You might need to leave the key. (3 points)
Become an expert

Choose a numerical system you don’t know too much about, roman numerals, the mayan system, chinese.

Make a poster showing the other numerical  (3 points)
Optical Illusions are very effective to look at, either replicate a design you can find or create your very own.  Using crayon , pen, vivid or and/or dye. (3 points)
Complete a statistic investigation
  • Favourite flavour of icecream/pizza/softdrink etc.
  • Favourite pet
  • Colour of eyes
  • Shoe size
  • Favourite vegetable
  • Favourite type of music

Do a class tally sheet, find out the mean,mode and median and present your findings in a creative way. (4 points)
Make a geometric shape from card like a nonagon, dodecahedron  or other cool shape.

Choose a Famous mathematician to learn about and do a presentation on this mathematician, outline why they are famous and what other achievements they had, present in any way you like. (4 points)
Use the scratch computer to make a game for others to enjoy - make the game have a math focus like basic facts. (4 points)
Design and make a board game that has something to do with maths. (4 points)
Create a poster of QR codes that link to clips/videos of you tutoring others in something maths related e.g. how to measure perimeter and area.
(5 points)
Reinvent a classic game of some kind e.g. a large chess board, giant battleships, enormous dice to use at school on wet days.   (5 points)
Enlarge a 2D picture on a grid.  Pick a cartoon and draw the grids!  (5 points)
Replicate a famous building or piece of architecture in minecraft. (5 points)
Design a geometric shaped stained glass window and make it with black paper and cellophane.
